a primeira vez que tive conhecimento do genocídio arménio, foi há uns 25 anos - até doí dizer isto - nas páginas do diário de lisboa, que todas as semanas lançava uma página de uma banda desenhada sobre os miseráveis acontecimentos de 1915, tenho ideia que o meu pai recortava a página todas as semanas, mas nunca mais passei os olhos sobre a obra, nem sequer me lembro do seu nome ou autor. recordo-me também, mais ou menos na mesma altura, do ataque à residência do embaixador turco em lisboa, por um comando arménio. depois disso, passei por inúmeras referências, mas nunca mais por um documento ou um acto que me fizesse pensar mais de cinco minutos no genocídio.
ontem vi ararat, o filme de atom egoyan que navega não só pelos acontecimentos do início do século XX, mas também pela diáspora arménia até aos nossos dias, da qual egoyan faz parte, ao lado do pintor arshile gorky, personagem simbolicamente central no filme. ararat não se limita a expor factos, ararat é uma discussão sobre o que significa hoje o genocídio arménio, sobre as suas diferentes leituras, significados e feridas, passado que está quase um século. montado brilhantemente de forma não linear, cruzando as épocas e a vida dos seus personagens no backstage de um filme sobre o genocídio, ararat seria sempre uma passagem obrigatória para egoyan, a novidade, ou não, é ser um documento honesto, pertinente e aparentemente pouco panfletário.
